Best practice process

The dramatic failures in installed efficiency measures that the UK has seen over the last two decades has led to a need for a new standard for retrofit. The standard put forward by the government is called PAS 2035.

PAS 2035 is a risk-based system that requires quality assured specialist knowledge and skills to be a part of the whole retrofit process. This includes assessment, project management, design, installation, and evaluation.

Key to the success of this system are Retrofit Co-ordinators, who represent the client and oversee the whole process. To be able to practice as an independent Retrofit Co-ordinator, individuals need a Level 5 qualification in Retrofit and Risk Management as well as Professional Indemnity Insurance.

The Cartrefi Clyd service, which is funded by the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme, is based around the principles of PAS2035, and we employ qualified PAS 2035 Retrofit Assessors and PAS 2035 Retrofit Co-ordinators.

Retrofit Assessment

Find a professional Retrofit Assessor to carry out an assessment.

Options Appraisal

This is a looks at what solutions might be available for your home, and gives the client a chance to understand what is viable and to choose a path forward

Personalised Improvement Plan

This looks at everything that needs to be done to the property, in the right order, up until 2050. This basically forms a plan for the building to make it as good as it can be.

Design and specification

Depending on the type of building especially if it is a ‘heritage’ or high-rise building, designers need to be sufficiently qualified and experienced to undertake the work.

Approved installer

Depending on the work this might be with MCS or Trustmark. They are currently certified under PAS2030.

Testing, commissioning and handover

Evaluation

Trustmark – The quality assurance body for UK Government will house all the data in its Data Warehouse. Trustmark also hold a search function for you to find registered tradespeople for retrofit work.
